GTrack How to Enable or Disable Pins to Get More Accurate Rankings

Google Maps Rank Tracker | How to Enable or Disable Pins to Get More Accurate Rankings

In this tutorial, we’ll explain how to enable or disable pins for a scan and for a scheduled scan, and why this can help you:

✅ Save scan credits

Each pin in a grid represents a scan point — disabling unnecessary pins means fewer points are scanned, which directly reduces your credit usage per scan.

✅ Get more accurate and objective ranking results

Focusing only on the locations where your business truly operates gives you a clearer picture of your local SEO performance. You’ll avoid skewed data from irrelevant zones and make better decisions based on real visibility.

📍 What Are Pins?

Pins represent the specific locations (GPS coordinates) where your business ranking is being checked on Google Maps.

For example, if you’re monitoring a 9x9 grid (81 locations), the system checks your rank at each of those 81 points during every scan per keyword.

✅ How to Enable or Disable Pins

You can manage pins directly when creating a new scan. This allows you to scan only the most relevant locations — and skip areas that don’t matter.

🛠️ Step 1: Start a New Scan

  1. Search for your business by typing your Business name and selecting it from the results. (Service Area Businesses (SABs) are also supported. GTrack can find businesses that don’t display a public address on Google Maps.)
  2. Type the keyword(s) you want to track, then press Enter (or use the AI Keyword Suggestion - blue star icon next to the keyword input field)
  3. Choose your grid size (e.g., 9x9) and radius (e.g., 1 km).

Once the map loads, you will see all pins automatically enabled on the grid.

  1. Click any pin to disable it (it will appear with a red X).
  2. Click it again to enable it (it will return to active status). If you want to quickly enable all pins again, use the "Enable All" button from the popup box that appears in the top-right corner of the map.
  3. Once you’ve disabled the desired pins, click Initiate Scan.

📊 Step2: View Scan Details with Selected Pins

After your scan completes, click on your business name or on View Details button next to the scan you just created.

The scan results will show only the pins you selected during setup. Disabled pins are not included in the analysis or scan credit calculation.

This gives you a clean and focused overview of your business rankings across the areas that truly matter, making the data easier to interpret and more actionable.

🕓 Using Pins in Scheduled Scans

You can also manage pin selection when setting up Scheduled Scans. Here’s how:

🔄 Step 1: Create a Scheduled Scan

Start by Searching your business by typing your Business name and selecting it from the results. (Service Area Businesses (SABs) are also supported. GTrack can find businesses that don’t display a public address on Google Maps.), set your grid size (e.g., 9x9) and radius (e.g., 1 km), keyword(s), scan frequency, time of day.

You will see all pins automatically enabled on the grid.

  1. Click any pin to disable it (it will appear with a red X).
  2. Click it again to enable it (it will return to active status). If you want to quickly enable all pins again, use the "Enable All" button from the popup box that appears in the top-right corner of the map.

⚠️ Note: The pin configuration you choose will be used for all future runs of this scheduled scan unless you go back and edit your scheduled scan settings. Changing the grid size or disabling different pins will update how the scan is calculated moving forward.

  1. Once you’ve disabled the desired pins, click Create Schedule.

🧾 Step 2: View Scheduled Scan Results After First Run

Once the scheduled scan runs for the first time, go to Scheduled Scans, locate the scan card, and click the History icon next to it to view the results.

You’ll now see results based only on the pins you enabled during setup.

💡 Why Disable Pins?

Disabling pins helps you:

  • 💰 Save scan credits: Each pin costs credits per scan. Turning off irrelevant pins saves valuable resources.
  • 🧹 Avoid irrelevant data: Ignore locations that are too far away or no longer served by your business.
  • 🎯 Focus your strategy: Concentrate on high-priority zones that actually affect foot traffic or customer reach.

🎯 How This Helps with More Objective Rankings

When you disable pins outside of your real service area, your rankings become:

  • More relevant to your actual audience
  • Less diluted by locations you don’t care about
  • Easier to interpret for optimization and reporting

This makes your scan results cleaner, more strategic, and easier to act on.

✅ Ready to start? Create a new scan or a scheduled scan, adjust your pins, and save credits while tracking what really matters — all while getting more accurate and focused ranking results!
